Land Rover Tulip Tour

Ride in a rugged Land Rover Defender along the narrow country lanes past the tulip fields of the Bollenstreek. Your driver is also your local guide: he knows the most beautiful fields, tells you about tulip growing and stops wherever the photos are best. With a maximum of six guests per tour, this is a personal way to experience the flower fields around Keukenhof.

What makes the Land Rover Tulip Tour special?

While coaches stick to the main roads, the Land Rover takes the back roads along the tulip fields. You sit in a fully covered Defender, so you stay dry even during a shower. With no more than six people on board, there is time for your questions and for photos at the spots you like best.

How the tour works

The tour starts at Restaurant MIDO on the Heereweg in Lisse. You will recognise your guide by his yellow jacket. Then it is off into the fields. According to the operator, the stops include:

• The tulip fields around Keukenhof, with photo stops at fields of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths
• Historic windmills, with views across the fields
• Keukenhof Castle, which you pass along the way
• A tulip farm with a show garden, where you see and photograph the flowers up close
• The Agathakerk, the village church of Lisse

The exact route varies per day: your guide drives to the fields that are looking their best at that moment.

When is the best time?

The season starts in March with daffodils and hyacinths. The tulips follow in April and are usually at their best from mid to late April. The weather decides the exact moment, so nobody can guarantee blooming tulips. We follow the fields every week in our bloom forecast. Around the Flower Parade on Saturday 17 April 2027 the region is extra busy: book well in advance.

Meeting point, parking and getting there

• By car: park for free at the restaurant on Heereweg 10 in Lisse.
• By public transport: from Schiphol take bus 361 towards Noordwijk; from Leiden Centraal or Haarlem Centraal buses run to Lisse. Plan your journey at 9292.nl.
