What makes Intratuin Lisse special?
Intratuin has been bringing people closer to green living since 1980 and has grown into one of the best-known garden centre chains in the Netherlands. The Lisse branch has something no other Intratuin has: its location. You are standing in the heart of the Bollenstreek, between Amsterdam and The Hague, just 3 kilometres, about ten minutes by bike, from Keukenhof. In April the fields around the Heereweg turn red, yellow and purple.
Intratuin Lisse calls itself the largest garden centre in the region and a paradise for garden lovers. But even if you do not have green fingers, you will enjoy yourself here. You can browse at leisure, have a good lunch, let the children play and, in spring, hop straight onto a bike. Shopping, eating and heading out: you can combine it all at one address, with free advice from the staff thrown in.
Buying flower bulbs in the heart of the Bollenstreek
Where better to buy flower bulbs than in the region they come from? From late summer the shelves fill up with bulbs for spring: tulips in dozens of colours and shapes, daffodils, hyacinths, crocuses, grape hyacinths and ornamental onions. Plant them from October to December, as long as it is not freezing, and in spring you will have a little piece of the Bollenstreek in your own garden or on your balcony.
In spring it is all about summer bloomers such as dahlias, lilies, gladioli and begonias. Not sure about varieties, planting depth or the best combinations for a pot? The staff are happy to help. Besides bulbs you will also find the tools, potting soil and containers to get started right away.
Tip for visitors from abroad: flower bulbs are a popular souvenir, but some countries have import rules. Check them before you travel so your bulbs can come home with you without any problems. You will find more local products on our page about local products from the Bollenstreek.
Everything for garden, home and pets
The range at Intratuin Lisse is wide. Outside and in the greenhouses you will find perennials, shrubs, trees, fruit and vegetable plants and seasonal bloomers. Inside there are houseplants of every size, pots and vases, home accessories, garden furniture, barbecues, garden lighting and tools. There is also an extensive pet department with food and accessories for dogs, cats, small animals, birds and fish.
The store looks different every season. In spring everything revolves around the garden and the terrace, in summer around outdoor living, in autumn around flower bulbs and cosiness at home, and from late September around the big Christmas show. As most of the store is under cover, Intratuin Lisse is also a good idea on a rainy day. Creative workshops for children and adults are held regularly.
The big Christmas show: from late September until the end of the year
In autumn and winter Intratuin Lisse is known for its big Christmas show. It usually opens as early as late September and stays until the end of the year. The 2026 Christmas show is now open. A large part of the garden centre then turns into an atmospheric Christmas world with Christmas trees, lights, baubles and decorations in all kinds of styles and colours. Perfect for inspiration for your own home and garden.

A visit to the Christmas show is an outing in itself, even when it is cold and wet outside. You wander indoors past the illuminated themed displays, the children stare wide-eyed, in winter you can do a few laps on the ice rink on the terrace and you finish with hot chocolate or coffee and cake at restaurant De Proeftuin. In October and November, feel free to combine it with choosing your flower bulbs. Then you take both Christmas and spring home in a single visit.
Restaurant De Proeftuin: breakfast, lunch and high tea
In the middle of all the greenery is restaurant De Proeftuin. You can come here all day: for breakfast, a coffee with something sweet from the restaurant’s own kitchen, freshly filled rolls, a meal salad, croquettes or a smoothie. The menu changes with the seasons, so there is always something new to taste. For a longer treat, book a high tea. It is also a lovely idea for a birthday or a baby shower.
The restaurant is spacious, which makes it pleasant for families and groups too. Cyclists like to use De Proeftuin as the start or finish of their ride: coffee first, then into the flower fields, and afterwards a chat over lunch. The restaurant is open during the garden centre’s opening hours. You can book via the website of De Proeftuin.
The Klautertuin and Peutertuin: free indoor play for children
While you enjoy a quiet coffee, the children climb and clamber in the Klautertuin. This indoor playground is next to the restaurant and is free to use. For the very youngest (ages 0 to 3) there is the Peutertuin, a separate play area made for toddlers, so they too can play safely at their own pace. You keep an eye on the children from your table and everyone has a lovely afternoon, whatever the weather.
That makes Intratuin Lisse a great address for parents and grandparents with (grand)children. You can also hold a children’s party here. Ask the restaurant about the options.
Assault course and ice rink: seasonal activities on the terrace
There is plenty to do outside as well. On the terrace of Intratuin Lisse the activities change with the seasons. In summer there is an inflatable assault course where children can burn off their energy, in winter the terrace turns into an ice rink. The assault course is free; skating costs € 3.00 per person, skate hire included. Bringing your own skates is not possible. So a visit to the garden centre becomes a family outing in every season: first the Christmas show or the flower bulbs, then a go on the ice rink or the assault course, and something tasty at De Proeftuin to finish. Check the website of Intratuin Lisse for the current dates.
Renting a bike at Intratuin Lisse in tulip season
In spring, from roughly mid-March to mid-May, Bike Rental Lisse is based on the grounds of Intratuin. It does not get more convenient: park the car, pick up your bike and within a few minutes you are riding between the flowering fields. Choose from city bikes, children’s bikes, tandems, electric bikes, electric cargo bikes and electric scooters. If you rent a bike, you park at Intratuin free of charge all day.
A city bike costs from € 17.50 per day, a children’s bike from € 16.00 and an electric bike from € 38.00 (2026 prices). On sunny days in April the bikes go fast, so book online in advance. All bikes, prices and the booking link are on the Bike Rental Lisse page.
Starting point of the Tulip Bike Tour
Intratuin Lisse is the recommended starting point of the Tulip Bike Tour, the tulip route through the Bollenstreek. Choose between a 10-kilometre route for half a day and a 25-kilometre route for a full day. Along the way you cycle past flower fields, Keukenhof, pick-your-own gardens and growers. The route itself is free.
Want to hear the stories behind the fields too? With the audio tour your phone tells you about tulip mania, the growers and the landscape as you ride. The audio tour is available in seven languages (Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Chinese), costs € 5.99 and works offline once downloaded. All details and the route map are on the tulip route page.
