Flower fields in Holland

The flower fields in Holland have been an icon of the Bollenstreek (Dutch flower region) for over 400 years. The excavated dunes and the healthy sea air have exactly the right ingredients to allow flower bulbs to grow optimally and to create the most colourful landscape in the world every spring. The flower season in 2023 starts on Thursday 23 March and lasts until Sunday 14 May.

Every spring, many visitors from all over the world come to enjoy the colourful palette of the flowering tulip fields. Popular are the world-famous Keukenhof flower park and the annual Flower Parade Holland, but there are also many nice small-scale flower attractions and events to visit.

Where do the flower fields bloom in the Netherlands?

The blooming flower fields create a unique and colourful play of lines in the Dutch landscape every spring. The most beautiful flower fields bloom in the Bulb Region between Amsterdam and The Hague. In addition to the popular tulip fields, crocuses, daffodils and hyacinths also bloom in the flower fields. The flower fields are mainly located between the dunes and the charming flower villages of Lisse, Hillegom, Noordwijkerhout and Voorhout.

When do the flower fields bloom in the Netherlands?

Most flower fields bloom between the end of March and the beginning of May. First to bloom are the crocuses and daffodils, followed by the hyacinths and early tulips. Of course, the flowering also depends on the weather conditions in February, March and April.

Keukenhof flower park

The most popular flower attraction is Keukenhof in Lisse. In 2023, this world-famous flower park will open its doors for visitors from all over the world for the 74st time. A visit to Keukenhof is also highly recommended for both young and old. The flower park is designed in such a way that the park looks different every week. In 2023, Keukenhof will be open for only 53 days and the number of visitors per day will be limited. Tickets must be bought online in advance.

Bloemencorso Bollenstreek

In the spring, the Bollenstreek is all about flowers and many flower events are organized. The best known event is the annual Bloemencorso Bollenstreek (flower parade). The parade will be held in 2023 on Saturday 22 April.
