Right in the centre of the old fishing village of Katwijk is the Katwijks Museum. A former, monumental shipowner’s house is the eye-catcher of the museum. The Katwijk Museum combines an extraordinary collection of paintings by foreign and Dutch painters who were attracted to the artist colony of Katwijk, with a fine collection of local and regional curiosities.

Why should you visit the Katwijk Museum?

Visit the Katwijks Museum in Katwijk aan Zee and delve into the rich history of this old fishing village and lively artists’ colony. Just a short trip from Leiden, The Hague and Amsterdam, this museum offers a unique look at the life and work of artists who settled in Katwijk from the 1880s onwards. Discover how painters found inspiration in the intense fishing life and admire works by well-known artists such as Bernard Blommers and Willy Sluiter of the Hague School, and Jan Toorop, known for his pointillist and symbolic works.

Besides beautiful paintings from the era, there are also detailed model ships and traditional costumes on display, bringing to life Katwijk’s past as a fishing community. The Katwijk Museum offers an authentic and cultural experience for anyone interested in art and heritage.
